In a letter to regional media she said: "I'm backing Birmingham:
"It’s wonderful to see our great city of Birmingham finally casting off its natural reticence and demonstrating how utterly perfect it would be as a host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
"Birmingham has everything required to make the games a huge success:
vision, ambition, a world-class reputation for sport and culture and a vibrant, multi-cultural population willing to welcome the world with open arms.
"Perfectly placed at the heart of the UK, and representing the diversity of the Commonwealth, the entire West Midlands region will feel the benefits of the venture which will create jobs and contract opportunities, as well as being a huge springboard for inward investment.
"The city has a reputation for delivering world-class international events. It has the know-how and the passion. It is also one of Europe’s youngest cities, with 40 per cent of its population under 25.
I have no doubt they will be enthused and inspired by the Commonwealth Games taking place on their doorstep. The legacy will be theirs.
"Good luck to those involved in the bidding process. Let’s bring the games home. I will most certainly be supporting #Brumbid2022."
