Earlier this week Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston met with Vanessa Harbar from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
HLF invests National Lottery money to transform and sustain the UK’s heritage. Up and down the country these projects breathe new life into tired or at risk museums, buildings, collections, parks and landscapes. To date HLF has supported 39,000 projects with over £6.8 billion across the UK.
HLF have awarded 93 projects almost £16 million in Mid Worcestershire since 1994. This includes funding towards ‘Growing Worcestershire Treasures’ – a partnership project aimed at addressing heritage skills shortages within the museum, archive, historic library and fine art disciplines.
Nigel Huddleston said:
“From the archaeology under our feet, to the historic parks and buildings we love; from precious memories and collections, to rare wildlife; the Heritage Lottery Fund use National Lottery players’ money to help people across the UK explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about.
I would strongly encourage any local groups or individuals who need funding and feel they can make a lasting difference for heritage to get in touch with the Heritage Lottery Fund. Far too often projects in need of money miss out on funding because they simply don’t apply. As is the case in so many walks of life, if you don’t ask, you don’t get, so applying is well worth a go.”

Local groups who have benefitted from HLF funding in the last year include:
· The Badsey Society for a project exploring the impact World War One had on the communities of Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford.
· Droitwich Spa Library for a project inspiring and connecting young learners with their World War One heritage.
· Worcestershire Wildlife Trust for ‘Wild Worcester’ a project to empower people in Worcester to protect the city’s natural heritage and to celebrate its natural heritage and to celebrate its special local habitats.
