Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston is teaming up with the Dogs Trust to help raise awareness of responsible dog ownership.
Next month Nigel will be paired with a rescue dog and, alongside several MPs from all political parties, take part in the annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition and meet with Dogs Trust representatives to discuss Government animal welfare policies.
The theme of this year’s Dog of the Year event will focus on promoting responsible dog ownership, as well as raising awareness of important issues such as puppy smuggling and changes to animal cruelty sentencing.
Nigel said of the event: ‘I am delighted to be taking part in this year’s competition and I want to use this opportunity to show my support for our local Wickhamford rehoming centre, which is also run by the Dogs Trust.
I have raised the issue of puppy smuggling in Parliament on many occasions and I welcome the news that maximum jail sentences for those found guilty of animal abuse is to increase. I believe this event will provide a great opportunity to ensure these important subjects are given the attention they deserve.’
