Mid Worcestershire MP, Nigel Huddleston, welcomes the publication of Worcestershire County Council’s Rail Investment Strategy. The ambitious strategy was released on 6th July and will remain open for public consultation until 11th August. It will be used to strengthen the case for enhanced rail connectivity across the County involving major investment in Worcestershire’s rail infrastructure and is part of the development of the Council’s 4th Local Transport Plan.
The strategy proposes four overarching themes for development, including an hourly Kidderminster-Droitwich Spa-Worcester-Paddington train and a regional service between Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, Worcester and Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and Bristol.
Commenting on the strategy’s publication, Nigel said:
“This ambitious strategy makes a compelling case for investment in Worcestershire’s rail infrastructure and I urge local residents to read the document and submit their feedback via the Council’s website. Worcestershire is a thriving County, forecast to grow by 45,000 new homes by 2025, and this strategy addresses the need to ensure our rail infrastructure is equipped to accommodate an increasing number of passengers. The proposals will also bring significant economic benefits to the County and I would encourage all local businesses to get behind the plans so that they can be implemented as soon as possible. I particularly welcome the target of 1 train per hour between Kidderminster and London Paddington via Droitwich, and know just how significant an impact this will have on my constituents who have struggled with limited rail connectivity to London.”
