Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston has welcomed the announcement by the Chancellor of additional government funding for services which will benefit his constituents. There are substantial budget increases for schools, hospitals and the police service.
Mr Huddleston was pleased to see fellow-Worcestershire MP Sajid Javid reaffirm the Government’s commitment to the NHS during the 2019 Spending Round, investing an additional £33.9 billion between now and 2023/24. He also welcomed the pledge that Worcestershire’s primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and sixth forms, are set to receive a cash boost. An additional £700 million is also being given to support children with special educational needs.
An extra £750 million of funding was likewise announced for recruiting an additional 20,000 police officers.
There are also further funds to support the Government’s efforts to protect the environment and curb climate change. Mr Javid told colleagues that £90million will be allocated to accelerate decarbonisation schemes and to improve air quality, and at least £250 million given to the international climate and environment funds which will also support other nations in their efforts to reduce their contribution to climate change.
Mr Huddleston said: “The announcements outlined by the Chancellor shows a firm commitment to funding for many of the things that matter most to my constituents: schools, hospitals, the environment and the police. We will see real changes locally to our services as the funding flows through.”
