Mid Worcestershire Conservatives have opened up their Parliamentary candidate selection to everyone who is on the electoral register within the Mid Worcestershire constituency. (see map) A public open primary meeting will be held at Pershore High School on Friday 22 November at 6pm. Irrespective of which political party a resident supports, or votes for, they will be able to have a say in who will be the man or woman who will stand for election in 2015, following Peter Luff’s decision not to stand again.
At an Executive Council of the Mid Worcestershire Conservative Association held on Saturday 16 November, four candidates have been selected, from a number of original applicants, to go forward to the open primary meeting. The four selected candidates are:
· Victoria Atkins
· Edward Argar
· Nigel Huddleston
· Nusrat Ghani
In order to attend and vote at the open primary meeting, residents will need to register either by e-mail to [email protected] or by postal application to Mid Worcester Conservative Association, Churchill House, 15 Sansome Place, Worcester WR1 1UA. The deadline for receipt of registration applications is 5pm on Wednesday 20 November. Paid up members of the Association are not required to pre-register, but doing so will help ascertain likely numbers of attendance.
The Chairman of Mid Worcestershire Conservatives, Gerry O’Donnell, said:
"in Mid Worcestershire we want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to decide who will be our candidate in the next general election. We have four excellent contenders who will face questions from the floor. The person who goes forward to represent us at the next general election will be decided by a ballot at the end of the evening in which everyone registered to attend may participate."
