Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston has highlighted with the Government the need to make further improvements to the A46.
In the House of Commons on Thursday 21st March, Mr Huddleston asked Ministers in the Department for Transport what steps they were taking to improve road connectivity in the Midlands. He also raised the specific issue of the need to make further improvements to the A46 and explained that the corridor is a vital artery that has the potential to unlock economic growth and create jobs right across the Midlands.
Responding for the Government, Transport Minister Jesse Norman said that the Government has made many investments across the Midlands and mentioned the recent improvements to the M5. He also said the Government funded Midlands Connect to carry out a full corridor study designed to look at potential improvements, which is expected to be published later on this year. He also pointed out that the Government has been investing in the A46 link road phase 1 at Stoneleigh junction and in junction improvements around Coventry.
Nigel Huddleston MP said: “The Minister gave a positive response and I am encouraged that the Government is open to making further improvements in addition to the investment we have already seen. I will continue making the case to Government about the transformative impact upgrading the A46 could have for the Midlands’ economy and I look forward to Midland Connect’s corridor study being released in due course.”
