On Saturday 23rd March, Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston joined more than 40 local volunteers to pick litter during the Great British Spring Clean, a mass action environmental campaign run by the environmental charity ‘Keep Britain Tidy.’ The huge effort from volunteers and the Evesham Anti Litter Group cleared 75 big bags of rubbish from Evesham town centre. Bruce Taylor and Julie Tucker have organised this litter pick for 3 years in a row now and this year had the biggest turn-out yet.
Between 22 March – 23 April, the Government has organised the UK’s Biggest Ever Clean-Up, encouraging people all over the country to try and keep their town centres litter-free. In Worcestershire, communities and people have joined forces to clear single-use plastic litter from our streets and parks - recycling as much as possible.
Mr Huddleston said: “It was great to see people in Worcestershire really getting behind this campaign and making such a positive difference to our area. This comes with the welcome announcement that nearly £10 million will be made available for local authorities and community groups, like Evesham Anti Litter Group, to keep up their amazing work cleaning up our High Streets and town centres. I want to thank all those who took part on Saturday, especially Bruce and Julie who dedicate a lot of time and effort to organise these clean up events.”
