On Saturday 27 February, Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston, took part in a pancake morning at the Evesham Baptist Church to mark its tenth anniversary as a Fairtrade Church.
The Church raised over £260 at the event which, together with other donations, means they will be able to send £1,000 to Tearfund’s Lent Appeal. This will help thousands of people who saw their children, homes and livelihoods washed away in the terrible floods last year in Mozambique.
Also in attendance were Cllr. Fred Kaler, Mayor of Evesham, Rev. Dr. Edward Pillar. Minister of Evesham Baptist Church and Dr. Tracey Allan, Secretary of Evesham Baptist Church.
Nigel said,
“The pancake breakfast was a great way to mark both the tenth anniversary of Evesham Baptist Church being a Fairtrade Church and the start of Fairtrade Fortnight and this year’s theme of breakfast.
Awareness of Fairtade is growing and more than £1.8billion of Fairtrade products were sold in the UK last year. It is so easy to take our food for granted and we all like a bargain when we’re at the supermarket - but it’s important that we also think about where our food comes from and make sure that the people who produce it receive a reasonable price for their goods and labour.”
