Nigel Huddleston MP has welcomed the latest figures which show the country is building again with housing starts and completions at a seven year high.
The latest figures that in 2015 in Wychavon there were 740 housing starts and 850 new home completions.
In England, between October to December 2015 more than 143,500 new build homes started - nearly double low point of 2009.
The Government is delivering 400,000 new affordable home starts by 2020. Of these, 200,000 new Starter Homes will allow young first-time buyers to buy homes at a 20% discount on the market value. A £2.3 billion fund will be made available to support the delivery of Starter Homes.
In a radical policy shift the Government will also directly commission building of homes on public land, so that high-quality homes will be built quickly. A £1.2 billion starter home fund will also be made available to build at least 30,000 new starter homes on 500 new sites by 2020.
Since 2010, the Government has helped more than 270,000 households buy a home through Government schemes. They have provided more than 270,000 affordable homes to rent, which went beyond our target.
Nigel said,
“These figures show that the reforms to the planning system are working and builders are confident in investing and building homes. It’s welcome that the country is building again with housing starts nearly double the low point of 2009.
Of course we need to make sure that wherever and whenever possible houses are built where there is local need and local agreement, together with adequate supporting infrastructure but I am pleased that the Government is making home ownership a reality for more people both in our area and across the country.”
